Early life
Layana Calissa was born and raised in Luxembourg. She comes from a multicultural family with Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Ashkenazi Jewish, Belarusian, Eastern European, Baltic, and Balkan roots. Her mother lived in Belarus before moving to Luxembourg, where she married Layana’s father. When Layana was six years old, her parents divorced.From an early age, Layana felt deeply connected to music, dance, and artistic expression. Because of financial difficulties, she could not always afford piano lessons, vocal lessons, or dance classes. As a result, she taught herself much of her craft through observation, practice, and personal dedication.
